Agriculture accounts for more than one-third (15m ha) of Swiss land use and contributes some CHF 10.6bn to the economy. Livestock farming is the dominant sector, with only 22,200 farms growing cereal crops on approximately 150,000ha.

Cereal production, mainly wheat and barley, was nearly 1m tonnes in 2014, while oilseed rape and sunflowers are other commonly grown crops.
