Arxada Receives Science-Based Target Initiative (SBTi) Validation For Emissions Reduction Targets

SBTi classifies Arxada’s scope 1 and scope 2 target ambition in line with a 1.5 trajectory. With near- and long-term reduction goals for Scope 1,2,3 towards net zero by 2050

Basel, Switzerland—September 14, 2023—Arxada AG (“Arxada”), a global, science-based leader in innovative specialty chemicals, is proud to announce that it has received validation from the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi) for its ambitious emissions reduction targets. This recognition further solidifies Arxada’s steadfast commitment to sustainability and its position within the industry as the preservation go-to.

The SBTi is a partnership between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). It provides companies with a clear pathway to set science-based emissions reduction targets and helps align business strategies to the latest climate science.

In May 2023, Arxada issued its inaugural sustainability report, The Power of Science & Sustainability. The report outlines the Company’s three strategic pillars, including its Planet pillar which established scope 1 and scope 2 target ambitions with the goal of Net Zero by 2050. Moreover, the Company leverages its manufacturing process technology expertise to deliver more efficient processes for key chemistries, focusing on resource efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. SBTi validations are a key milestone in Arxada’s sustainability progress.

“We are pleased to receive validation from the SBTi for our emissions reduction targets as we enter our third year as a stand-alone company,” said Marc Doyle, CEO of Arxada. “Our company was founded on the belief that our industry in particular has a responsibility to address climate change and take action to reduce our environmental impact. This validation is an important step in our journey as we contribute to the chemical industry’s transition to cleaner, greener solutions.”

Arxada’s actions to reduce emissions are well underway. Progress to date includes:

  • Exceeding the 2030 reduction goal for Scope 1 and 2 emissions; thus we will reset our 2030 goal in 2023
  • Evaluation of our Scope 3 footprint and identification of raw materials with the most significant impacts on emissions reduction
  • Implementation of processes to minimize waste and environmental impact at all Arxada sites
