Climbability additive
The CCA-PA Pole was innovated nearly three decades ago in a research and development partnership between Hydro-Québec and Arxada. The CCA-PA pole offers the benefits of a CCA-treated wood utility pole: long-lasting, non-oily, and dependable, with environmental features, plus the benefits that come with an additive enhancement. The CCA-PA pole:
• offers a degree of climbability comparable to that of poles treated with oil-borne wood preservatives
• makes it is easier to saw, drill, and nail
• provides nominal storage maintenance — no need to rotate poles during storage.
The polymer-based additive is water-soluble in its initial state. It is part of a patented mixture that is injected under pressure into the wood being treated with CCA. This process takes place in a plant using large horizontal cylinders. The wood is heated and the additive is polymerized to form a three-dimensional network that is water-insoluble.
